Status Update, December 2024

uncomfyhalomacro | 2024-12-25 | reading time: ~2min

Hello! It's time for another status update!

December was quite uneventful. I really took a break from learning software development (not entirely but like I lessened my interaction with it).

For tech related stuff, I have fully migrated roast from GitHub to Codeberg. The reason? For a long time, I want to start slowly migrating away from GitHub for my open-source projects. I want to inspire or advocate that it is possible to foster a community and contribute with no big tech corporation managing our code with questionable decisions and copyright issues.

Other than that, roast's development has come to a pause. I plan to write an equivalent

Otap is still on-pause for a year. But I really plan to resume its development starting 2025 alongside roast.

For rypper, that is still in my mind. I hope that once otap is done, I will go back to rypper and start working on it full-time. I really plan to make it a zypper alternative, and if better, a zypper replacement.

Well, how about personal life? To be honest I rarely do this but currently, I am healing from wounds I received from someone I trusted the most since October.

Thankfully, the best decision of my life is to leave them out of my life so I can finally focus on myself and my family. I am very happy that my family is supportive despite whatever bad I had experienced.

Fortunately, a flower is blossoming again but I know what to do now and I believe this new found flame will be someone I am willing to risk and become part of my life. ❤️

I hope everyone have found peace, whether it's an event, a thing, or a person. I hope everyone will never experience the awful things I have experienced. I wish you all that you will only receive love and peace! ☺️

Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄 and see you all again next year where I will be learning assembly, C, Elixir, Zig, Go, and Gleam to increase my knowledge in computer programming! 🎉

Bloat

Common questions we see in the OpenSUSE community are "which distro is the least bloated", "how can I remove bloat", "package X is bloat" etc. For the longest time this has confused me - Linux while sometimes slow, isn't "bloated". So where are all these q…

Merry Christmas, Ya Filthy Animals (2024)

I've been absolutely slammed over the last few weeks, between moving to a new house, a large number of readers visiting Melbourne over the holidays and wanting coffee, and doing work for clients at the ol' consultancy. However, writing will pick up again i…

Roasted Christmas Spam from Muhu.ai

I wrote what I thought would be the final blog post of 2024 last week, and was looking forward to starting 2025 strong with a blog I’d been drafting since July 2023. But then, a little after Midnight on Christmas, I received the following unsolicited email…

Why Bitcoin is not decentralized - in any way

Bitcoin is decentralized, right? So yesterday I was scrolling my feed on LinkedIn, a thing I usually do once a month, and I found this: So in the image above you can see a chart showing the Bitcoin distribution over different entities. The chart is…

Yer a Wizard! Tagging Hard-coded Credentials Can Lead to Finding Magic (Numbers)

As GreyNoise researcher, you always have things to write detection rules for. Some of them aren’t always exciting, but they become more interesting as you dive deeper. Let’s jump right in and take a look at CVE-2024-6633: The default credentials for the s…

Swift observations from a reluctant Rustacean

Recently I've been thinking about Swift in terms of Rust, & have appreciated anew some of the choices made. In Rust. There's been a proliferation of X vs Y posts on the web, especially since the advent of LLM AI, so I try to resist the format. It's often e…

OpenGL is not Right-Handed

The original Twitter thread: https://x.com/TheGingerBill/status/1508833104567414785 I have a huge gripe when I read articles/tutorials on OpenGL: most people have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to coordinate systems and matrices. Specifi…
