Expounding Some Important Tools I Use
Editors
I am very familiar with any editor now from Emacs, to VSCode, from IntelliJ to Vim. But my notable favorite editors are Helix and Kakoune. Visual feedback is more convenient for me that is why I prefer the reverse mode of Helix and Kakoune over Vim or Neovim.
Why Not Fancy Browsers Like Arc?
That’s just Chromium re-skinned. Most users only use only a few features at a time. To be honest, I just like Firefox because of copium.
Jokes aside, Firefox has under-marketed features that I don’t get why their marketing team did not market… also read https://endler.dev/2024/the-dying-web/. We clearly share the same sentiments
also the push for manifest v3 in Chromium is … atrocious
Why LibreOffice?
I advocate for Open Standards because
- they have the potential to help out education sectors
- save money both personal and society
- open source
What The Hell Even Is Aerc?
It’s a TUI mail client written in Go. I like the terminal :D
What Distro Can You Recommend?
Let’s head to my archived post - https://uncomfyhalomacro.pl/static/archive/blog/12/
Do you use other operating systems?
Yes. I was mainly a Windows user because there are no other alternatives known at that time that I know of.
I did try FreeBSD at one point but gave up.
Oh I noticed you used VSCode?
As much as I dislike VSCode because it’s a big Chromium tab, it makes sense for easy integration with plugins written in Web technologies.
Although, when I write code for campaigns, I just usually use https://zellij.dev + https://github.com/mawww/kakoune + https://xplr.dev.
VSCode is still a full-fledged editor. I just use a variant of it called https://vscodium.com/.
Campaigns in the future, I plan utilising GitHub Codespaces or Gitpod. Most developers will develop on Linux at some point, might as well onboard you now.

- Zsh
- Bash
- Nushell

My Career Development
Key points in my career development?
- realisation
- transformation
- procrastination
- motivation
Do I have anything to share? XD
COVID moment
Highlights
My old potato laptop lead me to Linux. Started with Debian.
Got me into tech so I did the following
- Got bored on COVID so I went to some learn platforms such as hyperskill and exercism
- Python Discord (joined 2019?, left 2021, rejoined 2024)
- Community Collaboration with others
- Julia (became a mod or admin in Humans of Julia. left the role on 2022-2023)
- Discovered Rust in 2021 and I fancy it over it so I left Python for a while
- Met my mentor in a Discord server. Learned a lot from security to some makes sense to do stuff.
- It’s more like motivational advice rather than like full lecture about tech.
I started out as a college instructor
I still wished to be a medical doctor i.e. neurosurgeon but life became sad so I did the “Dora-dora the explorer” where “the map” does not exist.
I became a college instructor to help out the family.
But I kept on pushing on
While teaching for a university, on the sidelines, I still keep up with tech news and blogs, read some stuff, and do some “learnings” on the side. But I believe that was inefficient.
I got lucky
After a lot of job searching, I was able to find StackUp. This is actually my first tech job and I am quite happy with it.
It’s pretty rare for me to find something I love doing…
Goals
While on the side, I think the ultimate goal for any people who aspire to become a professional in tech is to keep on learning.
And I also think that’s my advice for everyone.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. If it’s an advice, I might be able to answer that.
But do note I started fresh in this career path so I guess it’s also nice to look for other more experienced professionals in this field too
